Better late than never, right?
Today I’m going to take a very belated look at the lists used by the 13 contestants at the first of two Wonderslams this year.
We had no less than 21 players sign up for the Frozen Boys. We are all eternally grateful and thankful to everyone who signed up or who even considered signing up, seeing as Minnesota in February is a frozen hellscape. Of the 21, 13 players were able to make it out. Impressive, considering the massive blizzards blanketing the Midwest around that time!
First we’ll look at the final standings, then we’ll talk lists.

It’s interesting to me that three players chose to play BatB, two players chose to play Joker/Penguin, and only one of each of the Court, League, Mr. Freeze, OC, Sirens, and Team Arrow were present.
It’s worth noting that we imposed some pretty heavy restrictions on the Society in order to curb their power level a bit. Most of these made it into the recent update to Teams (fancy that). It’s also worth noting that this event was run as Eternal, although most players ran almost exclusive Standard.
Penguin was the most recently released crew that had made its way to the States, so two Penguin players isn’t surprising. It was really nice to see such a wide variety of crews among 13 players. To me that speaks to the balance of this game!

It’s worth noting that Aaron C. did go on to take 1st at Adepticon with two very similar lists just a month later. Overall this tournament went very well, and we’re incredibly thankful to everyone who braved the weather to join us at the Source Comics and Games in Roseville, MN.
